If you’re passionate about football and crypto, then the SportFi sector is one to keep on your radar.
At the intersection of Web3 and sport lies SportFi — a new layer of engagement powered by Fan Tokens. These digital assets allow fans to connect with their favourite clubs in fresh ways. Teams such as our official partners, AC Milan ($ACM) and Paris Saint‑Germain ($PSG), along with other big names listed on Bitpanda — including FC Barcelona ($BAR), Manchester City ($CITY), Juventus FC ($JUV) and﹙soon-to-clash﹚ AS Roma ($ASR) — are leading the charge in this evolving space.
Football is driven by emotion. But that emotion does more than fill stadiums — it can also ripple into crypto markets.
So, for our inaugural SportFi preview, we turn our focus to this Sunday’s high-stakes Serie A showdown at the San Siro: AC Milan vs AS Roma — a match sponsored by Bitpanda — where both clubs and their Fan Tokens are under the spotlight.
As AC Milan and AS Roma prepare to write the next chapter of their storied rivalry, their Fan Tokens — $ACM and $ASR — represent more than digital tickers. They sit at the heart of a new kind of fan-engagement ecosystem where community, performance and sentiment converge.
For fans, these tokens offer a fresh way to be part of club culture — from voting on decisions to unlocking exclusive experiences. For traders and SportFi enthusiasts, they provide a unique lens on how emotion and momentum in sport can shape market behaviour.
AC Milan have enjoyed a solid start to the season, with new energy under Massimiliano Allegri. Roma, by contrast, are rebuilding under Gian Piero Gasperini — strong leadership on both sides.
Milan goes into Sunday without star USA international Christian Pulisic, who is sidelined with a thigh injury. Of nine games played so far this season, Milan have won five, drawn three and lost one. Two draws came in the last two matches — home 2-2 vs Pisa, and away 1-1 vs Atalanta. The latter result coincided with the $ACM Fan Token rising from $0.62 pre-game to $0.64 post-match.
At the time of writing, $ACM’s 24-hour volume is approximately $3.3 M — an increase of over 20% on the prior day, indicating rising trader interest ahead of this pivotal fixture. While the token’s price has remained relatively stable lately, it is down roughly 20% month-on-month, reflecting broader cryptocurrency market pressures.
AS Roma have also enjoyed a strong opening stretch — seven wins and two losses from their first nine matches. A win this weekend would extend their advantage over Milan. Roma also hopes to welcome back captain Lorenzo Pellegrini into the starting eleven after he made the bench during their recent 2-1 victory over Parma. That win nudged them level at the top of the Serie A table.
At the time of writing, the $ASR Fan Token is priced at around $1.41. Its trading volume in the last 24 hours has surged by over 60% to approximately $5.2 M — another clear signal that this match is capturing attention in both the stadium and the trading terminals.
Matches between these two clubs have typically been tightly contested. In the last six encounters, three ended in draws, Roma won twice, and Milan once. In the penultimate game week of last season, Roma defeated Milan 3-1 at the Stadio Olimpico.
This history sets the scene for a match where both squad and token narratives converge.
The outcome of Sunday’s clash may influence short-term sentiment, but in SportFi, the story always runs deeper than one result. The value of Fan Tokens, like any digital asset, reflects both the pulse of the market and the passion of the supporters — a reminder that in this emerging space, performance and emotion move side by side.
Whether you’re in the stands, on the sofa or watching the charts, this is sport in motion — and finance in motion. Stay tuned for more SportFi previews here on Bitpanda — where football fandom meets the future of finance.
