The new directive stipulates that operators of platforms through which cryptocurrencies are traded, as well as providers of wallets for cryptocurrencies, are obliged to execute stricter customer verification requirements under the terms of anti-money laundering law.

In order to fully comply with the new directive, Bitpanda, Europe’s leading home of digital assets, began to implement all the required steps at an early stage. As a proud holder of a payment service provider licence under PSD2, this is another step in ensuring Bitpanda’s due diligence towards our users and the maximum safety of users’ assets within the scope of a sound legal framework.

What does AML5 mean for you as a user?

If you are already verified, you can use all of our services as usual without further action required from your side. You can check your verification status in your Bitpanda account settings.

If you live in one of the supported countries and still need to verify your account in order to be able to deposit and trade, we are offering the best verification methods tailored specifically to your needs — you can choose from two verification options, light verification and full verification, in a very fast, frictionless and user-friendly process.

Do you need help verifying your account? Head over to our Helpdesk to find a full list of countries and documents our verification providers support. Please note that we don’t manually verify accounts.

Kind regards from Vienna,
Team Bitpanda
