EBC 2024 Recap: Pantos at the European Blockchain Convention in Barcelona

The European Blockchain Convention (EBC) in Barcelona brought together innovators, builders, and leaders to explore the key challenges and opportunities facing blockchain today. For Pantos, this event was a chance to share our vision for a more connected, secure, and decentralised future. Our focus at EBC was clear: How can blockchain interoperability become the foundation for a more resilient and adaptable blockchain ecosystem?

1. Panel Discussion: Blockchain Interoperability

One of the standout moments this year was a panel discussion where Pantos engineering manager Juan M. Tirado spoke about the critical challenges facing blockchain security, particularly regarding the rise of cross-chain technologies.

“There are two types of bridges: those that have been hacked and those that will be hacked.” - Juan M. Tirado

This honest reflection captures a reality that developers in the space must grapple with—security is never a finished product, especially as we link different blockchains together. At Pantos, we understand this risk and are committed to building solutions that make interoperability not only possible but secure. Our approach emphasises the importance of long-term, research-driven development in solving these complex issues.

2. Key Takeaway: Crypto is here to stay

A major focus of EBC 2024 was regulation, particularly how it is becoming a critical factor in the future of blockchain. As more regulatory frameworks take shape, businesses and institutions need solutions that allow them to navigate compliance while benefiting from the potential of blockchain.

The tokenisation of real-world assets (RWA) was another key theme. By bringing traditionally illiquid assets like real estate or commodities onto the blockchain, tokenisation can create new opportunities for liquidity and access. This is where multichain solutions like those being developed by Pantos can play a role in ensuring that tokenised assets can move between networks securely and efficiently.

3. Bitpanda & Pantos: A strong partnership

The event highlighted once again how Pantos, in collaboration with Bitpanda, is well-positioned to support projects looking for trusted and regulated partners. As one of Europe’s leading investment platforms, Bitpanda provides the regulatory compliance and trust that businesses require. Together, Pantos and Bitpanda are creating solutions that are secure, compliant, and future-proof for businesses exploring tokenisation and blockchain integration.

At the centre of this effort is PANDAS (Pantos Digital Asset Standard), Pantos’ future-proof token standard. PANDAS allows tokens to move seamlessly between supported blockchains, removing the need for reliance on insecure bridges or being locked to a single chain. This flexibility is crucial for projects looking to stay adaptable in an evolving blockchain landscape. During the event, we had valuable interactions with various institutions, gaining insights into the specific requirements these major players have when adopting new blockchain technology. Bitpanda’s partnership with Société Générale on the launch of a stablecoin highlighted the importance of compliance and security. These insights will be instrumental in helping PANDAS become the go-to solution for institutional adoption.

4. Looking Ahead: Pantos at Devcon 2024

With EBC now behind us, Pantos now turns its attention to Devcon 2024. Although we will not be leading a talk or panel, Devcon represents an important opportunity for us to engage with key players in the blockchain community and exchange ideas on blockchain interoperability. We are excited to discuss the next phase of development and how Pantos can continue to contribute to the space.

Our focus remains on building for the long term, ensuring that our solutions are not only effective today but can also meet the demands of the future. Devcon will be another step in that journey, giving us the chance to connect with the broader blockchain community and push forward our vision of a more collaborative and secure ecosystem.
