How to identify smishing scams

In order to keep your account safe please keep in mind that scammers may send deceptive SMS messages , phone calls from scammers (aka “vishing”) or e-mails impersonating Bitpanda to trick you into downloading malware, clicking harmful links, sharing sensitive information (such as passwords or two-factor authentication [2FA] codes) or sending money to a third party.

Your safety is our top priority

Smishing messages can sometimes appear in the same chat as legitimate texts because attackers can fake the sender’s identity (sender ID spoofing), and mobile networks don’t always verify who is sending the message. This makes it hard to tell the difference between real and fake messages. To help keep your account secure, please follow these important guidelines

  • Verify the Sender/Caller: Be wary of messages/calls from unknown numbers or email addresses claiming to be from our support team. Bitpanda does not make unsolicited calls, accept inbound calls, or offer support over the phone.

  • Do not click on links: Never click links in unsolicited messages, even if they appear to be from Bitpanda. As a rule of thumb, never click a link that does not run via our domain “bitpanda.com” (e.g. blog.bitpanda.com or support.bitpanda.com), or that uses shortened links or unfamiliar domains. Always use the official contact form on our website to check the legitimacy of suspicious requests.

  • Do not share personal information: Never share your password, 2FA codes or other sensitive information with anyone - not even with someone who is posing as a Bitpanda employee.

  • Don’t rush: Smishing scams often create a sense of urgency, pressuring you to act within a limited time frame. Take a moment to assess the situation.

  • Report suspicious messages: Forward suspicious messages to your carrier and block the sender.

What to do in emergencies

Remember, no Bitpanda employee would ever request your account balance, password, 2FA, or SMS codes. We will also never tell you to send your funds anywhere.

If you have given a third party your information or credentials, freeze your account here[https://support.bitpanda.com/hc/en-us/articles/360003558760-Account-hacked-or-compromised] and contact us immediately via our helpdesk.
