SMR & ASMB airdrops for holders of IOTA on Bitpanda and Bitpanda Pro

Bitpanda

By Bitpanda

Bitpanda supports the Shimmer (SMR) and Assembly (ASMB) airdrops for Bitpanda users and Bitpanda Pro users who are holding IOTA. In order to participate in the airdrops, you as a holder of IOTA need to opt-in on the Bitpanda platform via the pop-up in your Bitpanda broker app or browser.

Please note that rewards will only be paid out after the Shimmer and Assembly networks go live and the coins are listed on Bitpanda, which is expected to happen at the beginning of the second quarter of 2022 at the earliest.

Update (28th of March 2022): The 90-day period recording the average amount of IOTA holdings of Bitpanda users (Broker and Pro) who opted in to participate in the Shimmer (SMR) and Assembly (ASMB) airdrops ended on March 28. We took regular snapshots of the balances of those users and will now calculate final amounts and eligibility. If you have not received a pop-up in your Bitpanda account yet but are eligible for the airdrop, please check your account for our final opt-in which is coming up soon.  We are aware of upcoming announcements of continued & future opt-in periods for further SMR & AMSB airdrops for IOTA holders. We are monitoring the situation and will provide updates as soon as we have them.

Shimmer (SMR) and Assembly (ASMB) are the native coins of two new IOTA networks that are expected to be launched in Q2 of 2022. Bitpanda users holding IOTA will be able to participate in the airdrops for these two coins as a reward for holding IOTA. Bitpanda has been allocating for IOTA holders on the platform.

How does it work?

Bitpanda is going to calculate the average IOTA balance of every IOTA holder on Bitpanda (Broker and Pro) over the 90-day period and then calculate the amount of SMR and ASMB each user is eligible for. The amount you as IOTA holder on Bitpanda are eligible to claim will depend on the average of the amount of IOTA holdings recorded over the 90-day period. The 90-day period started on December 28.

What do I need to do if I hold IOTA on Bitpanda?

In order to participate in the Shimmer (SMR) and Assembly (ASMB) airdrops, you as a holder of IOTA need to opt-in on the Bitpanda platform via the pop-up in your Bitpanda App or your browser when you log in.

If you haven’t received the pop-up yet, there’s nothing to worry about: you can opt-in or out of the airdrop starting from January 13. If you have previously dismissed or closed the pop-up without opting in or opting out, you will receive it again the next time you log in. You will be able to claim the airdrops as soon as markets open for SMR and ASMB and Bitpanda lists those. Please note these markets are not expected to open earlier than Q2 2022.

What do I need to do if I hold IOTA on Bitpanda Pro?

Bitpanda Pro will also support the SMR & ASMB airdrops. Bitpanda Pro users won’t need to transfer funds from Bitpanda Pro to the Bitpanda broker to be eligible to participate. However, Pro users holding IOTA also need to opt-in to participate via the pop-up on their Bitpanda broker app (not the Bitpanda Pro app) or via the browser. You’ll receive the pop-up in the coming days.

Once you have opted in or out of participating in the airdrops, your preference will count towards your holdings on both Bitpanda Pro and the Bitpanda broker, however, you’ll receive the rewards directly on your Bitpanda broker account.

You are aware and accept that Bitpanda, at its sole discretion, may amend and/or call off the participation in and support of the airdrop at any time and you do not have any legal claim whatsoever against Bitpanda arising out of or in connection with this airdrop. Bitpanda does not guarantee that SMR and/or ASMB tokens will actually be listed on Bitpanda platform.

Keep in mind that participating in airdrops may have an impact on the taxation of your crypto-assets in your country of residence. The Bitpanda GTCs apply.
